Visiting author Sara Raasch

Visiting author Sara Raasch spent the day on October 23rd speaking to all high school English classes about the writing process and how she went about getting published. Her book, Snow Like Ashes, is the first in a trilogy that has already been picked up by HarperCollins. It is a wonderful fantasy book that I am looking forward to reading. Many of our students and teachers have already purchased a copy and Sara donated a copy to the school. English teacher, Mrs. Liz Maxson, had prepared her students for the visit by having them read the first chapter of the book and coming up with relevant questions to ask Ms. Raasch. Our students came up with some good questions about what it takes to become a published writer. And Sara was happy to answer them. Sara is a 2007 graduate of Fairlawn High School and is proud to be able to share her experiences as an author with aspiring writers of all ages. During the last class period of the day she was the focus of an assembly for 4th through 8th graders who also got to ask her questions and hear about the writing process. We thank Sara Raasch for taking time out of her busy schedule to spend a day with us. Thanks also to Mrs. Maxson for giving up her class time to prepare for the visit and to share the day with Ms. Raasch. We can be proud of our students for their insightful questions and willing participation in the presentation. Fairlawn is a great place to get a start on life!

Blood Drive

Fairlawn Local Schools will be hosting a blood drive Friday, November 21, 2014 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. If you would like to sign up to donate, you may do so by contacting a current 8th grade Health class student or contact Mr. Gump (gump@fairlawn.k12.oh.us) to schedule an appointment.

The Community Blood Center has established a maximum number of reservations that we can accept. Please be patient and know that we will make every effort possible to get you into the blood drive to donate, however, we cannot guarantee you a spot.

Reminder:

All donors, regardless of age will need to show a photo ID to register the day of the blood drive. If you do not have a photo ID, we will use the school yearbook. All 16 year olds and first time donors will need to show proof of date of birth.
